Review of Meeting (3rd January 2006)

Happy New Year Everyone!

For a new beginning year 2006, Bangsar TM has moved to a new venue. The meeting on 3 Jan 2006 was held at “House of Arts”, Bangsar. Interesting! Easy to find! Very colorful! Lots of artifacts and paintings! For those who love art, this is a good place to visit.

Since our meetings will be held here from now on, even those without art interest would finally be interested.

A good place to start the New Year!

We had 13 members and 6 guests at the meeting:

Attendees: AC Fong, Audrey, Bhavani, Lakhmichand, Lechu, Lourdes, Muhendran, Ranjit, Rema Paul, Rengan, Shandini, Shanmugam, Sunita, Suriakumar,

Guests: Arvind Sriram, Ashwin Sriram, and Jessica Lee, Jo Anne from Help Institute club, Ahmad and Paul Tan from Money Mastery club.

Theme: A New Beginning
Word of the day: Resolution

Role players have did a wonderful job of keeping the meeting organized, in time and purposeful.

SAA - CTM Suriakumar
TME - CTM CL Audrey
TTM - TM Shan
TTE - TM Shandini
AH Counter - TM Lechu
Grammarian - CTM Rengan
Timer - CTM Ranjit
Induction - ATMB Lucky (we had 2 new members)
GE - CTM Ashwin Sriram (Help Institute Club)

Table topic master had prepared very interesting topics for the evening. All the speakers were equally good. It was tough choosing the best speaker.

The topics were:
1. Legal recognition should be given for transsexuals -
Speaker: Paul Tan
2. Marriage is strictly a personal individual right -
Speaker: Arvind Sriram
3. Given a choice which would you choose, to be a doctor or a lawyer?
Speaker: Suriakumar
4. I am an exciting person because...
Speaker: Ranjit
5. Legalizing prostitution would help reduce rape cases and the spread of AIDS
Speaker: Rema Paul

During the second half of the meeting we had 3 assignment speeches - 2 from Bangsar TM Club and 1 from Help Institute Club.

TM Jessica Lee (Help Institute club) did her 9th speech from C & L Manual, titled “Soft Drinks”. She reminded us how harmful soft drinks are to our health and we should reduce our intake soonest possible.
Her evaluator was CTM Ivan Fong

DTM Lourdes did his speech from the Special Occasion Speeches manual – The Roast, titled “The 6th Month Anniversary”. You wouldn’t have expected that the speech was actually about our beloved President. Being famous for giving good speeches, as usual his speech was very interesting and entertaining.
His evaluator was ATMS Lucky

ATMB Muhendaran did his 5th speech from the manual “Speeches by Management”, titled “Bonus Payment”. His speech was about him acting as the HR Manager and informing the staff (us) that we are not receiving bonus this year! As expected, there were some hostile remarks and unfair questions thrown to him. However, Muhendaran handled the situation and the questions very well. Something we could all learn from.
His evaluator was Suriakumar.

Awards were given to the following best speakers and evaluator,
Best table topic speaker : CTM Ranjit
Best Speaker : ATMS Muhendaran
Best Evaluator : ATMB Suriakumar
Congratulations to all the winners!

The GE was impressed with the Toastmaster’s promise tradition at this club. He thought the evaluations are very comprehensive and good. He also found this new place very suitable for a club meeting.

Overall, Bangsar TM club has a bunch of talented and inspiring members. What makes us even special is the Toastmasters promise we recite at every meeting.

Next meeting is scheduled for 17 Jan 2006. I am looking forward to another exciting meeting.
