The meeting started 5 minutes late and trust me it is late by our standard. Though it took off slightly slow, our Table Topics Master did an excellent job in coming up with very interesting topics, ranging from marriage to realationship, education, etc. Well done Ranjit. I loved it. Hope every of table topics session will be of such enthusiasm!

Table topics speakers:
1. Shan
2. Kalai (Best Table Topics Speaker)
3. Renuka
4. Malini
5. Shandini
6. Paul Tan

There were 3 prepared speeches:

1. TM Chandran (a new member) - C&L Speech #8, Title: Words
2. TM Lechuman - C&L Speech #9, Title: Fever
3. CTM Shan - First advance speech from The Entertaining Speaker Manual - Title: Freed the rebel

Thorough evaluations were done by our team of evaluators namely, ATMB Lucky, ATMS Muhendaran and DTM Lourdes. and the Best Evaluator of the day award went to DTM Lourdes. As you all know they are old timers when it comes to evaluations so its very much rationale to expect sincere minus "buttering" evaluations. They did a great job and I would say that there was a stiff competition among them on that day.

Word of the day: RESOURCEFUL

It was also our last meeting before the new exco (same old faces) takes charge for one more glorious term for the club. Well done MR. PRESIDENT who steered the club this far, surely the in-coming president will continue fromwhere the former has left off and take the club to higher level. Lets all work towards it. Our President handled the hand-over ceremony to the in-coming president very well who as usual kept short and simple.

Our GE of the day felt very welcomed and at home in the club throughout the meeting. She was impressed with the changes that havw taken place since her last visit to the club. Thats what we do in the club, take the good pointers and work on them.

Review of Meeting (6 June 2006)

There were 9 members present with the company of 3 guests. The guests were: ATMS Anthony Thong from Ernst & Young Toastmasters, Chandran (former member of Millionaire Mindset) and Ruben who is a non-Toastmaster. Members present were: Muhendaran, Lourdes, Renuka, Lakhmichand, Ranjit, Shanmugam, Shandini, Rengan and Ivan Fong.

Though the attendance was not very encouraging, the presence of experienced and core members did successfully make up for a very fruitful meeting.

Ivan Fong, that’s me, was the Toastmaster of the evening. Right from the beginning, the success of the meeting was never in doubt as the lively response that I received to my prompting showed the enthusiasm of the whole bunch of us.

President Muhendaran was calm but pleasant in his opening address and he gave us some good news immediately by announcing that Chandran would be joining our club on that day.

The meeting was further sparked by a great Invocation, delivered by ATMB Lakhmichand . His food for thought was “there is always some good in anything that happens”. In other words, be positive and look on the bright side.

One of our youngest and most improved toastmasters, CTM Shandini was the Table Topics master. She made good use of the word of the day “cajole” to introduce her topics... Naturally, all the 5 speakers had to ‘cajole’ their supposed listeners in order to market themselves. Finally, it was our evergreen Lucky who won the hearts of the audience by his “CEO Act” and, of course, winning the award of Best Table Topics speaker.

Table Topics evaluator, ATMS Muhendaran gave a very objective evaluation of all the 5 speakers in his usual serious parlance...

ATMS Anthony Thong from E&Y delivered a simple, yet interesting and entertaining speech on chess entitled “checkmate”. Anthony enchanted us with his endearing smile, relaxed manner and occasional humour.

Our very own CTM Ranjit gave us another dose of good speech delivery with his rendition of “The Pastor with the Daring Dream” who is none other than the great Martin Luther King. His message was: in order to effect change, we must first change people’s mindset. Ranjit was really in his element and in my opinion, a much improved speaker.

The 2 speech evaluators, DTM Lourdes and ATMB Lakhmichand who are two of the kingpins of Bangsar Toastmasters never fail to invoke and impress with their objective, constructive and wholesome evaluations.

First time GE, CTM Shanmugam did a commendable job. Acknowledgement also goes to the Grammarian Renuka, Ah Counter Rengan and Timer Ranjit for roles well performed.

Our non-Toastmaster guest, Ruben, was very impressed by the speeches and evaluations. We expect to see him again and hopefully he joins our club. We extend a big, warm welcome to Chandran who is our newest member.

Overall, it was definitely a good-quality meeting. Keep it up, guys!

Review of Meeting (30 May 2006)

Bangsar Toastmasters Club had its 3rd meeting of the month on the 30th of May. As usual, this was an interesting meeting even though we had slightly less attendees than usual. This however did not affect the fun and learning atmosphere of the meeting.

A total of 9 members and 1 guest attended the meeting. Members who attended the meeting were Shanmugam, Shandini, Ranjit, Muhendaran, Lakhmichand, Ivan Fong, Lourdes, Pratap and Renuka. The guest was Mary Barton of WIM Toastmasters Club, who was also the General Evaluator.

The Role-players during this meeting were as follows:
Assistant Sergeant-at-arms - CTM Shanmugam
Toastmaster of the Evening - CTM Shandini
Table Topics Master- CTM Shanmugam
Table Topics Evaluator - ATMS Muhendaran
Ah Counter - CTM Ivan Fong
Grammarian - DTM Lourdes
Timer - ATMB Lakhmichand
General Evaluator - ATMB Mary Barton

The meeting was opened by the acting President, Vice-President of Education, CTM Ranjit Singh, since the President had indicated that he would be a little late.

The toastmaster of the evening, CTM Shandini, did a commendable job as the Toastmaster of the evening. She also played the role as the Invocator. The General Evaluator, ATMB Mary Barton, was quite thorough in her evaluation and had some good suggestions on improving ourselves.

The word of the day was "Peccadillo".

The table topics master, CTM Shanmugam, had some really challenging topics for us. The topics were based on some quotes and most of the speakers found that they really had to think very hard on their feet. The table topics speakers were CTM Ranjit, ATMB Mary Barton, ATMB Renuka, CTM Ivan Fong and TM Pratap.

We had only 2 prepared speeches – both advanced speeches.

CTM Ranjit did speech no. 2 from the Entertaining Speaker manual. The title of his speech was "Population". The content was a little controversial and thought provoking since it covered areas like why diseases are necessary to keep the population in check. He was evaluated by ATMB Renuka.

DTM Lourdes did his final speech for his ATMB from the Specialty Speeches manual. The title of his speech was "The Gift of the Magi". He read out a story about how a young couple sacrificed their most important treasures so that they can get Christmas gifts for each other. He was evaluated by CTM Ranjit.

The best table topic speaker was ATMB Mary Barton.

The President, ATMS Muhendaran closed the meeting.

The next meeting will be held on the 6th of June, 2006, so make sure you do not miss it.
